These fatty compds. are produced by oxidation of synthetic, high-mol., satd. or unsatd. hydrocarbons having boiling ranges above those of illuminating and gas oils. The oxidation is carried out at temps. above 100° with an oxidizing gas contg. mol. O. The preferred starting materials are the products of the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis. The lighter, more volatile intermediates which are formed in the course of the oxidation process are good promoters for the desired degree of oxidation and are retained in the reaction mixt. for this purpose.
