Study on facial character recognition under complex illumination

Abstract

In recent years, facial character recognition has become an important study hot spot. With the deep development of study, the facial character recognition has gotten full-grown progress. Nowadays, in some given condition, facial character recognition can get ideal result, and the recognition result has been widely applied to many modern areas, such as intelligent monitor system, digital identity authentication, e-commerce and so on. However, at present, the practical facial character recognition systems need that the recognized person locates under given circumstance, and needs better cooperation with the recognition system basically. Or else the recognition performance would be decreased largely because of illumination, gesture, expression and so on. But in the actual application environment, such as outdoors, airport and so on, where the illumination condition would be very complex, the active cooperation of the recognized person always would be very bad, and some character could be covered, and in addition to the impact of gesture, expression and other factor, the facial recognition performance is always far from the need of practical application. © 2012 Springer-Verlag London Limited.
