Abstract

Dr. David A. Wharton is an Associate Professor in the Department of Zoology of the University of Otago, New Zealand. The University of Bristol, England awarded him a Ph.D. in 1977 and a D.Sc. in 1997. He is the author of two books: A Functional Biology of Nematodes (Croom Helm/John Hopkins University Press, 1986) and Life at the Limits: Organisms in Extreme Environments (Cambridge University Press, 2002). His research focuses upon the mechanisms of cold tolerance and anhydrobiosis.
