Abstract

Episodes of atmospheric pollution are increasingly frequent in urban environments and metropolitan areas of large cities such as Madrid or Barcelona. By 2020, many cities will prohibit entry to the most polluting vehicles and will also impose specific actions on traffic. Based on the measures included in the Special Plan for Sustainable Urban Mobility (PEMUS) of the municipality of Málaga to meet the objectives set out by the EU in its 20-20-20 strategy, we will analyze the feasibility of the Superblocks proposal for Málaga. The methodology used for modeling is based on environmental capacity, which consists of removing space for private vehicles and assigning this to pedestrians and other means of transport, as proposed by the Urban Ecology Agency of Barcelona for the development of the concept of Superblocks, using the information published in the form of Open Data. With the modeling of the Superblocks proposal, some of the actions included in the PEMUS have been simulated and their impact has been assessed on the planning and management of the road infrastructure and transport networks operating in the city of Málaga.
