Abstract

Wireless sensor network is now becoming a burgeoning distributed computing paradigm which resembles traditional wireless ad hoc network in some aspects such as network organization. However, wireless sensor network differs greatly from traditional wireless ad hoc network in that the nodes are highly resource limited. This paper solves the problem of delivering data with different real-time constraints and proposes a protocol called Differentiated Application Independent Data Aggregation (DAIDA) to aggregate network units according to their priorities. Simulation results show that our DAIDA protocol reduces the end-to-end delay of real-time traffics and improves energy efficiency of the wireless sensor networks. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2005.
