Abstract

Aluminium, the most common metal in the earth’s crust, is highly reactive and rarely found in its pure state in nature. The metal is widely used in engineering, construction and cookware, and aluminium sulphate is used as a water flocculant. The main exposure in man is by ingestion. Aluminium is poorly absorbed from the gut, and a high silica level in water may further reduce its bioavailability.
