Abstract

Independent college is a product of China's higher education system innovation, which is promoted by the popularization tide of higher education in China. The creation of independent higher education institutions is an important initiative to accelerate the pace of the improvement of higher education quality and to overcome the deficiency of education funds of the higher education as well. By investigating 25 independent colleges, this paper examines the relationship between the investment modes and education quality in China, and explores which property right and investment mode fit the development of independent colleges better. The conclusion shows that five kinds of independent college investment modes have direct effect on education quality, and also finds the investment modes have direct influence both on the college management and the enrollment mode of independent colleges. © 2011 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.
