Abstract

The aims of this study were 1) to investigate the factor structure of a scale developed to measure physical, verbal, and relational aggressiveness in Mexican children, and 2) to examine the relationship of its dimensions with emotional dysregulation. By intentional sampling, children between 9 and 12 years of age from Mexico City participated in this study. Four phases were carried out, in the first the items of the scale were developed, in the second an exploratory factor analysis was performed, in the third a confirmatory factor analysis was carried out, and in the fourth the relationship of the aggressiveness scale with emotional dysregulation was investigated. The exploratory factor analysis resulted in two factors: Physical-Verbal Aggressiveness and Relational Aggressiveness. Confirmatory factor analysis supported the bifactorial model. The scale evidenced convergent validity with concerning emotional dysregulation. The study demonstrated that the scale can be used to measure aggression in Mexican children.
