Abstract

Video streaming is a technology that has had a great reception with internet users, and it has been integrated many platforms in different contexts like the educational one. For the video streaming distribution, the architectures use specialized protocols that manage the video transmission on the internet. In contrast, there are other alternatives proposed that allow streaming over the HyperText Transfer Protocol (HTTP). This paper proposes two streaming architectures using open source software for the distribution of Video on Demand (VoD) and live services over the HTTP. The distribution of live video is done with the Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (DASH) standard. Through web components, video streaming is visualized from a web browser with the goal to build a virtual environment for the broadcast of educational material. These architectures are validated through a video streaming service deployment over the University of Quindío network using a case study within the educational context.
