Abstract

Distribution boundaries of plant groups and biomes are set by a complexity of ecological (climatic, edaphic and biotic) and historical (phytohistorical and anthropogenic) factors which interact with the demands made on its environment by the species involved, and its capacity to withstand stress (Boysen-Jensen 1949; Good 1974; Whittaker 1975; Walter 1984).
