Abstract

Numerous hormones and hormone supplements are used by athletes in the hope of improving performance. Often, the marketing claims and gym lore regarding the utility of a given supplement do not agree with empirically obtained evidence. It is incumbent upon those who work with athletes to maintain a solid knowledge base regarding the science of hormone supplementation, as well as cultivate a process of critically appraising the current literature regarding hormone supplements. Indeed, it is likely that the science of hormonal manipulation will continue to evolve, and the rules and records will change to reflect modem athletes and their drive to succeed. © 2008 Humana Press.
