Abstract

Chapter 2 deals with different kinds of electric motors for continuous rotation and is divided into four main sections: - DC and AC motors with commutators - Brushless permanent magnet motors - Switched reluctance motors, and - Asynchronous and further synchronous motors Fractional-horsepower motors for continuous rotation are used in a broad variety of industrial, automotive, consumer and many other applications worldwide. By reason of huge production quantities along with the pressure of prices countless design variants have been developed in the course of time - many of them constructively integrated in mechatronic systems. In regard to ongoing trends the sections of chapter 2 give an outline of the most important motor types and respond to questions concerning functional characteristics, mode of operations, operation performances, calculations, motor designs, applied materials, applications, etc. The motors as a whole as well as their basic components are presented and described in detail.
