Abstract

During the last four years we have operated on 16 patients (2 male and 14 female) with suprasellar meningiomas using the anterior subfrontal approach. The median age was 53 years (40-76 years). All patients had visual impairment and visual field defects were found in all patients (one patient had complete loss of vision at the time of operation). The tumour was totally removed in 14 patients and only partially removed in 2 patients. Vision improved in 11 patients (69%) and in 7 of these the vision were normalised. Vision were unchanged in 3 (19%) and worse in 2 (12%). The advantages and drawbacks of the anterior subfrontal approach are discussed.
