Abstract

This chapter discusses the host range, symptom, transmission, diagnosis, characteristics, strains, epidemiology and control of the most important viruses infecting maize and sorghum worldwide. The viruses include maize streak virus, Guinea grass mosaic virus, Johnsongrass mosaic virus, maize dwarf mosaic virus, Pennisetum mosaic virus, sorghum mosaic virus, sugarcane mosaic virus, Zea mosaic virus, maize chlorotic mottle virus, maize rough dwarf virus, rice black streaked dwarf virus, maize Rio Cuarto virus [Mal del Rio Cuarto virus], maize stripe virus, maize yellow stripe virus, maize rayado fino virus, maize mosaic virus, barley yellow striate mosaic virus, Iranian maize mosaic rhabdovirus, maize fine streak virus and sorghum stunt mosaic virus.
