This text aims at analyzing the work of Antonio Gramsci from a sociological perspective. The premise of the author addresses the question: What can a social scientist remove from the reading of his work? We, therefore, deal with a unilateral and implicated angle. The proposed discussion involves constituent problems regarding the treatment of the social sciences, in ways of understanding how Gramsci regards the relationship between the individual and society, going through its conception of religion and hegemony. © 2007 ANPOCS.
