We examined energy flow and nitrogen turnover in a highly eutrophic lake in Chile. Carbon fixation varied seasonally between 25--450 mg C m-2 h-1 in the photic zone, and ca. 6.25 {\texttimes} 106 kg C were fixed in the lake during 1980. Nitrogen turnover in the phytomass was ca. 1.04 {\texttimes} 106 kg N yr-1 based on an arbitrary C: N ratio of 6.0.
