Abstract

The main goal of this work was to implement a semi-automatic tool for calculating ejection fraction from an echocardiography video signal. Two imaging segmentation methods were implemented (Active Contour and Region Growing Algorithms). The results were compared with a set of measurements obtained by two different specialists in Cardiology; these showed that when the quality of video samples improve their contrast, the values provided by the tool were substantially close to reported values by the experts; also the correlation between the values obtained by the physicians does not vary significantly.
