Abstract

Lack of processing capabilities, regular updates, or patch-up and constrained resources make the highly autonomous and interconnected system of the Internet of Things (IoT) into a convenient location for several security breaches. There is a tremendous increase in the rate of cyberattacks in recent years, which alarms the cyber security force to develop more enhanced solutions by adopting new technologies and resources as never seen before. Security services like intrusion detection, packet inspection, and firewall are provided as a service through cloud servers using virtualization and Software Defined Networks (SDN). In this paper, a group-based access control mechanism which centers on SDN embedded fog nodes is proposed to provide routing based access control for sensitive IoT applications. Further, a second level of verification is done by the device itself by adopting the existing Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC) and Message Authentication Code (MAC) without any extra overhead.
