Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between self-esteem and the tendency of nomophobia in female college students in Surabaya. This study uses a quantitative approach with correlation analysis method. Respondents in this study were active female college students in Surabaya with a total of 349 respondents. The instruments in this study were the self-esteem scale and the nomophobia tendency scale. The analysis used in this research is the product moment correlation test with the help of the SPSS 23.0 for windows program. The results of the research obtained a significance value of 0.000 (sig. 0.00 <0.05) with a correlation coefficient of-0.471, this proves that there is a significant negative relationship between self-esteem and the tendency of nomophobia in female college students in Surabaya. Thus the hypothesis proposed is accepted, meaning that there is a relationship between self-esteem and the tendency of nomophobia in female college students in Surabaya. The higher the self-esteem, the lower the nomophobia tendency of female college students in Surabaya. Vice versa, the lower the self-esteem, the higher the tendency of nomophobia among female college students in Surabaya.
