Abstract

In this paper, we propose a method for selecting clusterheads, called 'zone-based method for selecting clusterheads', in a wireless sensor network to balance the amount of energy consumption over all nodes without generating any isolated sensor nodes. In our method, the network field is first divided into several zones, and each zone includes clusterheads in proportion to its area, which contributes to distributing clusterheads evenly over the network, Simulation results show that our method outperforms LEACH and PEGASIS in terms of network lifetime. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2006.
