People with a disability have in the past been excluded from society and suffered human rights violations in many aspects of life. The convention on the rights of persons with disabilities (CRPD), adopted in 2006 with its comprehensive new model of care, has created an opportunity for change, which over time should provide better integration, inclusion, quality of life and health for this group of people. The convention is also a tool or instrument for health care professionals to use in order to create and demand better healthcare and services from their government or ministries.
