Abstract

Childhood obesity is a rapidly growing health problem in several developed and developing countries. Long-term obesity leads to other non-communicable diseases. Thus, babies and children (as well as adults) should receive a balanced diet that creates healthy eating patterns. Food products should thus be formulated considering factors such as attractiveness, cost, healthiness, nutrient content, among others. Childhood obesity can be combated by following healthy cooking methods, eating nutrient-rich foods, avoiding junk food and not consuming in excess. It is thus important to develop food products that attract babies and children by providing a wide variety of flavors and attractive packaging, but without compromising on nutritional quality.
