Abstract

The use of time division multiplexing has grown rapidly during the last few years. This growth has seen a commensurate improvement in the time division multiplexing equipment, and this paper examines some of these improvements and their use in practical systems. The features discussed are contention, adaptive speed control, efficient speed intermixing, high speed intermixing, software multiplexing, and testing and monitoring facilities. The factors influencing selection from a large number of new features, and options available for use with time division multiplexing are outlined, and the difficulties that they create for both the manufacturer and the user of the multiplexer equipment are discussed.
