Abstract

It was time to have a closer look at the `fishing industrial complex' at work in the bluefin tuna trade. Tuna was still snugly tied up to money and power, as it had been for centuries. It was only the main players that had become bigger and more global. The trail of bluefin tuna now stretched from the Mediterranean to Japan. That's where power over tuna resided, and so that's where there might be an answer to the question of how the catch could be made more sustainable.
