Abstract

There are many environmental factors, directly or indirectly affecting the growth and development of the plants. Abiotic stresses are also designated as adverse environmental factors negatively impacting the growth and development and hence productivity of the crop plants. Because of rigorous anthropogenic development, more and more crops are venerable to abiotic stresses in the several parts of the world. The intrinsic property of plant to sense and respond to these adverse environmental cues enables them to protect through the activation of a large number of genes and gene networks. Signaling pathways are the crucial and key part of this intricate machinery involved in enabling plants to adapt and adjust in response to these abiotic stresses. Till date, calcium-mediated CBL--CIPK components are extensively studied to be involved in regulating several abiotic stress-triggered signaling cascades.
