This paper discusses the concept of population and sample in a study, various sampling techniques and how to determine sample size. The method used is literature study and document analysis to obtain theories or writings related to it. The results of this paper are: 1) The population is all elements in the study including objects and subjects with certain traits and characteristics. The population can be divided into three, based on the number of populations, namely limited populations and unlimited populations, based on their characteristics, namely homogeneous populations and heterogeneous populations, and based on other differences, namely the target population and the survey population. 2) The sample is defined as part of the population which is the actual source of data in a study. In other words, the sample is a portion of the population to represent the entire population. 3) Sampling techniques can basically be grouped into two, namely Probability Sampling and Nonprobability Sampling. 4) Determining the sample size can be done by calculating the sample size with the method developed by Isaac and Michael, and also by using the Harry King Nomogram formula, and the Krejcie formula.
