Abstract

An advantageous solution to denture wearing problems has been the use of soft liners which are applied to the tissue side of the denture, cushioning the foundation of the denture bearing tissues. Polyphosphazine fluoroelastomer was chosen, because of its softness, good mechanical properties and ability to be cured under ordinary dental laboratory conditions. The PNF-200 was orginally manufactured by Firestone, but more recently has been made by Ethyl Corporation. This elastomer is a semiorganic rubber with a phosphorus-nitrogen back-bone and fluorocarbon side groups.
