Abstract

The construction of social networks allows to review and evaluate the flow of ideas, determine the existing problems in the exchange of knowledge and implement changes to promote and improve collaboration in the organization. The research’s objective is to analyze social networks formed in Ecuadorian organizations, specifically small businesses, to have an influence on the effectiveness of information and knowledge transfer and organizational performance. Four small companies were selected through trial sampling, and with the use of Gephi software for the study of social networks. The obtained results defend the application of social networks within the organizations to identify flaws and remark improvements of the administration. It is concluded that the usefulness of social networks to uncover the flow of ideas, experiences and knowledge among the members of the analyzed organizations and their impact on their performance, pointing out the need of extending the application of techniques, like social network analysis, knowledge management in organizations study, and to give more scientific rigor to this area.
