Analyzes the existing relationship between upper secondary education and sustainable development of cities in Oaxaca, Mexico with populations of close to 15,000 inhabitants. The hypothesis is that upper secondary education has a high and significant influence in improving cities' sustainable and urban development. Methodologically the paper is based on the compilation of indicators on education, sustainable development and territorial concentration, and using them to perform a regression analysis (linear and nonlinear) taking as a reference the coefficient of the highest correlation, the significance (greater than 0.05) and the absence of self-correlation. The results regarding the relationship between the cities analyzed and upper secondary education reveal the existence of a student population attracted basically by economic need and not necessarily by the well-being or social development of cities, which tends to influence failure rates.
