Since more than twenty years, the Democratic Republic of Congo (drc) has seen an increasing number of the " street children ", children who had been chased away or who had runaway, children who drop off with their families. few studies had been driven on this particular population. the author draws the bases of a study on the mental and cognitive development of the street children and its first results. Has not the time spent in the streets altered their skills ? if placed in a situation of learning, are these children able to acquire skills ? unlike what the common sense would have driven us to believe, the study results show that their hard life conditions have not diminished their mental development and their cognitive capacities.
