Abstract

This chapter features a brief analysis of the structure and evolution of the rural population of Muntenia in the 1930s, as they emerge from statistical data. The period selected, albeit marked by social issues and crises preceding the beginning of the Second World War, was one in which the population was able to face up to all the challenges entailed by holding on to traditions as well as by accepting and harmoniously assimilating elements of novelty.
