Abstract

This paper proposes an expert system that can be used to build the quality model of a web-based learning platform. The main advantages of using such a tool instead of a human expert are the increased availability, low-cost and fast service. The quality framework used is called SEEQUEL and the proposed expert system was built using CLIPS, a productive development and delivery expert system tool which provides a complete environment for the construction of rule based expert systems. In the first part of this paper, the SEEQUEL Core Quality Framework and CLIPS expert system generator are presented, showing the advantage of using an expert system for this task. In the second part, a case study of using the SEEQUEL framework and CLIPS tool to build an expert system for building the quality model of a web-based learning platform is presented. The final conclusion of the experiment was that an expert system can successfully replace a human expert for the proposed task. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.
