Abstract

In this paper we analysed timber and timber based products as renewable materials that can be reused, recycled or used as energy source, with minimal waste. In civil engineering the main aspects of environment are: consumption of material and energy for constructing purposes, and emission of harmful materia into the environment during the life cycle of construction. Forest regeneration has certain significance in the system of sustainable development. Wood degradates easily which is an advantage considering the waste management problem. The paper emphasizes the advantages of wooden structures in terms of thermal characteristics. We also emphasized the positive effect on global warming and greenhouse effect, because of the reduction of CO2 level with forest regeneration. © SGEM2011 All Rights Reserved by the International Multidisciplinary Scientific GeoConference SGEM.
