Abstract

Architectural representation today is experiencing processes of evolution ever more incipient, moving from the practices of measurement tradition, conducted with direct instrumentation, to advanced three-dimensional modeling methodologies that digitize the acquired data in virtual environments. The new generations of documentation protocols represent a continuous field of development where however the tradition of survey continues to emerge as a theoretical foundation of the discipline and essential operational methodology of integration to technological limitations of advanced equipment such as laser scanners and Structure from Motion (SfM) processes. Within the research laboratory “DAda Lab” of University of Pavia, the activities carried on the hermitage complex of Sant’Alberto in Butrio, Oltrepò Pavese, highlight the relationship between tradition and practice in the architectural representative discipline through today’s technological development, both methodological and instrumental, and characterized themselves as a pilot case to promote the enhancement of the monumental and landscape heritage of the province of Pavia.
