Abstract

We describe the second mode of dialectical thinking that we call process thinking, which in essence views entities as always being in motion. We illustrate process thinking with reference to a natural weather phenomenon, a cyclone, and then to a conceptual entity, Robert Kegan’s spiral model of adult development. We then give examples of three levels of process thinking. We conclude with a series of generic “mind-opening” questions designed to encourage process thinking.
