The Characteristics of University Students on Environmental Attitude and Environmental Literacy Level: Example of Faculty of Nursing

Abstract

Environmental health problems are increasing day by day and threaten public health. In this study, it was aimed to determine the characteristics of nursing students on environmental literacy and environmental attitudes. In this descriptive study, data were collected from 388 nursing students between March and June 2021. Data were collected through The Environmental Literacy Scale for Adults and the Environmental Attitude Scale. Descriptive statistics, t-test, anova and regression analyzes were used to evaluate data. It was found that 47.9% of the students participating in the study were in the first grade and 96.6% of the students were not members of an environmental organization and 55.4% did not participate in any educational program related to the environment. A statistically significant difference was found between the mean scores of the total mean scores of scales in terms of the environmental education status of the students, the effect of university education on environmental awareness, and the effect of the pandemic process on environmental awareness (pÇevre sağlığı sorunları her geçen gün artmakta ve halk sağlığını tehdit etmektedir. Bu çalışmada hemşirelik öğrencilerinin çevre okuryazarlığı ile çevre tutumları arasındaki ilişkinin incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Tanımlayıcı tipteki bu çalışmada, Mart-Haziran 2021 tarihleri arasında 388 hemşirelik öğrencisinden veri toplanmıştır. Veriler, Yetişkinler için Çevre Okuryazarlığı Ölçeği ve Çevresel Tutum Ölçeği aracılığıyla toplanmıştır. Verilerin değerlendirilmesinde tanımlayıcı istatistikler, t-testi, anova ve regresyon analizleri kullanılmıştır. Araştırmaya katılan öğrencilerin %47,9'unun birinci sınıf öğrencisi olduğu, %96,6'sının çevre örgütü üyesi olmadığı ve %55,4'ünün çevre ile ilgili herhangi bir eğitim programına katılmadığı belirlenmiştir. Öğrencilerin çevre eğitim durumu, üniversite eğitiminin çevre bilincine etkisi ve pandemi sürecinin çevre bilincine etkisi açısından ölçeklerin toplam puan ortalamaları arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir fark bulunmuştur( p
