Abstract

The Evaluation of a translator’s translation literacy is an essential part of translator training. In order to evaluate the progress made by each translator at various stages of the training, this study firstly carefully examines the existing definitions regarding translation literacy contributed by researchers both within and outside China from 1970s till 2015; and then devises an index system to objectively reflect the gradual progress of translation literacy of each translator. Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) is adopted when designing this index system for quantifying translation literacy. It is proved that the index system is student-oriented and able to indicate the individual differences of translation learners. The index system may not only be applied to personnel responsible for evaluation and management of translator training, but also to individual translation learner who expects to conduct self-evaluation on a regular basis.
