Abstract

Learning Objectives: After reading this chapter and answering the discussion questions that follow, you should be able to Critically analyze the history, incidence, and reasons for abortion from a global perspective. Identify and discuss differences in implementation of abortion laws and policies across different countries, and the public health implications with particular attention to unsafe abortion and abortion-related mortality and morbidity. Explain abortion techniques and safety and appraise the emerging trend toward earlier abortion in countries where abortion is safe and available. Discuss postabortion care - its evolution, current best practices, and examples. © Springer Science+Business Media, LLC 2009.
