This practice corner focuses on an overlooked population—Hispanic men who are substance users—and focuses on the need for culturally attuned prevention programs and practice that focus on the role of the father. Fatherhood for Hispanics, specifically, is a critical period in life where change and opportunity is possible. This article proposes for practice and treatment aimed at substance-abusing Hispanic men to capitalize on fatherhood, emphasizing a strengths-based prevention model utilizing identity theory to help reduce health disparities.
