Abstract

Pre-culture on PPYDA medium (0.5 g dextrose, 5 g peptone, 5 g yeast extract, 20 g agar, 1000 ml of 30 g potato decoction) followed by post-culture conditions of 23-26øC and 80- < 100% RH were used for 157 Japanese isolates in attempts to develop the perfect state by the soil-on-agar method. Among these isolates, 6 of cultural type IA, 1 of IB and 2 of IC developed the perfect state. This was identified as Thanatephorus cucumeris based on the morphology and dimensions of basidia, sterigmata and basidiospores.
