Abstract

Conventional search engines are able to extract commonplace information by incorporating users' requests into their queries. Users perform niche requests when they want to obtain atypical objects or unique information. In these instances, it is difficult for users to expand their queries to match their niche requests. In this paper, we introduce a query suggestion method for finding objects that have atypical characteristics. Our method focuses on the property values of an object, and elicits atypical property values by using the relation between an object's name and a typical property value. © 2011 Springer-Verlag.
