Various different types of neoplastic diseases can occur in the urogenital system of both dogs and cats. Amongst those, benign tumors of the testes and vagina are the most frequently encountered tumors in dogs, followed by mostly incidental leiomyomas of the uterus. Prostatic tumors are rare, but generally malignant and present in an advanced stage at time of diagnosis. While tumors of the urinary tract are less frequent, transitional cell carcinoma of the urinary bladder and urethra are the most commonly diagnosed malignancy. Cats in general tend to be less susceptible to develop tumors of the urogenital tract than dogs, but can have a very similar clinical presentation and diagnosis. Clinical signs mostly refer to location and size of the tumor, but the tumor can also be an incidental finding. This review focuses on the different tumor types of the urogenital system and will give a summary of possible diagnostic tests, treatment and prognosis. © Schlütersche Verlagsgesellschaft mbH & Co.
