Abstract

This final chapter ties the book together, reiterating the arguments of the other chapters that the claims of many of the thinkers engaged with are underpinned by a foundational belief in the value of internal and external self-law giving. By establishing evidence for this a priori claim within a range of African political movements the chapter reiterates the argument for a weak universalism able to recognise both the universality of self-law giving as well as the culturally specific approaches to achieving it. The chapter concludes by reiterating the key claim of the book, that respect for internal and external self-law giving should be viewed foundationally and thus respected if we are going to engage in just and fair cross-cultural dialogue in the process of international norm formation.
