Abstract

Antonio Gramsci's reflections on the problem of right are scarce and fragmentary, both in the writings preceding his incarceration and in the so-called Prison Notebooks. For that reason, it may not seem very much surprising that there are only a few productions that directly address the way in which this author has analyzed this problem. In the present article, we seek to contribute to fulfill this vacancy. In the first place, we will present a reading hypothesis about the problem of right in Gramsci, articulating it as of the conceptual pair coercion-consensus. We will finally try to go beyond his analyses, and we will introduce a possible hypothesis about the way in which right participates in the production of hegemony.
