The article considers monographs written in the framework of academic writing workshops for initial curriculum areas of specialization and for interdisciplinary and international master's degrees in the area of Social and Human Sciences located in Buenos Aires. It analyses, with a predominantly qualitative methodology, whether these writings correspond to the genre that students are required to produce. The purpose of the study is to determine, first, whether academic traditions in which students enroll affect approaches or distances of the features of the genre, which are verified in their monograph writings. To do so, the analysis of the corpus is confronted with the results of an inquiry applied to the same students. Second, the work aims to identify difficulties of graduate level in which students are incorporated, especially with respect to the appropriation and production of knowledge. To achieve these objectives, a corpus composed of sixty monographs, thirty written by Argentine students, and thirty produced by foreign students, is analysed.
