From a system integration perspective, Web data mashups used in larger architectures often need to be integrated with other system components, such as services, business processes, and so on. Often a change in one of these components requires changes in many of the dependent components. Similarly, an analysis of some system properties requires knowledge about other system parts than just the mashup. Such features could be implemented using the model-driven development (MDD) approach, but existing MDD approaches for mashups concentrate on modeling and execution only. To remedy this problem, we propose a generic approach based on a UML2 profile which can easily be extended to model other system parts or integrated with other existing models. It is the foundation for generating or interpreting mashup code in existing languages as well as other system parts using the MDD approach and performing system adaptation or analysis tasks based on models in a standard modeling language. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.
