Abstract

Explains the concept and development of site selection and analysis system. The Expert System for Site Analysis and Selection (ESSAS) is a prototype system with 240 decision rules, and is designed to solve a portion of the site selection problem. The system was developed to aid master planners for the Army who are responsible for planning future building projects at military bases. To incorporate intuitive judgments into the site selection process, an expert system approach seems appropriate. Information from regulations, field manuals, design guides and interviews with expert master planners was combined into the final ESSAS system. -from Editors
