Abstract

In France the training of engineers immediately evokes Schools of Engineering. In fact, the status, the recruitment method, the type of training may vary according to the school. However the unity of the training is guaranteed by authorities like the Committee for Engineers’ Titles (CTI). The schools are first and foremost professional schools, even if today they are all concerned with developing basic or applied research. The quality of this professional training is based on a whole environment in which relationships with professionals, industrialists, alumnae, as well as community life within these schools, play a central part.
