Abstract

The major patient complaint about breast mastopexy or breast reduction is the cosmetic appearance of a visible vertical scar on the breast. A breast lift with reduction and augmentation is described that avoids the vertical portion of the scar by utilizing a periareolar and submammary incision. The periareolar incision is used to decrease the size of the areola and to slightly lift the breast, while the excision of a triangle of skin starting 5 cm below the new inferior edge of the areola, and sometimes including the breast parenchyma for reduction, will eliminate the vertical scar. Patients are more pleased with this elimination of the vertical scar. © 2009 Springer-Verlag.
