Abstract

Adipocere format ion and mummification by desiccation, both natural modes of body preservation, are discussed. Lipid extracts from outer tissues of naturally preserved bodies were analysed by high-temperature gas chromatography in combination with microanalytical transformations. The analytical investigation of the lipid composition of tissues from desiccated mummies is described here for che first time.
